Camping not only gives me more time to spend with Nature, but it lets me explore further without having to worry about how low the sun is getting. I set out without much of a destination, hoping to invite in that wandering vibe that I love. Eventually, I found a passage up and out of the canyon that led to higher ground, and I followed it.
The sun was getting a little lower in the sky by this point, so I decided to find a place to sleep while I still had light. I laid out my sleeping bag and gathered wood for a fire. I wasn’t sure I wanted I fire, at first, but I’m glad I went through the effort to prepare for one because it was well worth it. As the evening grew dark and the cold dropped in, it was nice to be able to sit there in the glow of the fire and watch the moon set on the distant horizon while stars pierced the night a thousand at a time.
In the morning, I discovered I wasn’t on exactly where I thought I was, so instead of continuing off the other side of the rock formation, I had to backtrack to find the narrow passageway that led me to where I camped. Normally, this wouldn’t be too big of an issue, but since I worked so hard the day before to get my mind into that “wandering mode,” I kind of forgot to pay attention to anything else. Still, it was worth it, and I eventually found my way back down to the wash.
