It’s been cold lately here in Alaska, and the frost been forming in layers over everything as the night days get shorter, but it’s always feels good to get out and spend some time in the light. In this video, I set out to explore the quiet frozen landscape a little, and I brewed up some spruce needle tea and sat with the fire to further soak in the moment.

It’s interesting being here in Alaska. Although I grew up here, my recent years in the desert of Arizona were in such heavy contrast to this place that everything feels different now–like it’s new. Last year, around this time, I might have set out in sandals and shorts over the desert landscape and brewed up some mormon tea–maybe tossed in a few ocotillo flowers–but now the crunch of snow is beneath my feet and it’s spruce needles that find their way into my tea. It’s a different world here, for sure, but I’m trying to settle in and soak it up the best I can.

I look forward to learning more about how things move here.
